Admiral Allen looks like every Coastie I have ever known:

Do they select for that quality when they choose their Admirals?
No disrespect, BTW. They're the least recognized service, and that's a shame.  Because they do good work.

  1. His title is actually Commandant. He is in charge of the Coast Guard. It's kind of frosting my cookies that the media keeps calling him Admiral. He's got Admirals working FOR him. But thanks for your appreciation!

  2. A we always said in the USN, "You have to be over 6 feet tall to join the USCG; so you can wade ashore when the boat sinks."

That said, as a recreational sailor with friends who fish the Bering Sea, the Coasties have my everlasting respect.
