I have been scolded

My sister advises me, forcefully, that KD Lang's version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is much better than any other and that I was terribly wrong to post that other, inferior rendition.  Since it is her birthday, I will accommodate her by providing the requested link.

My mother in law agrees.  It seems that I am outnumbered.

O Canada! With glowing hearts!

Thanks, SF. I've heard Ms. Lang's earlier treatment on her cd, "songs from the 49th parallel" or something like that. I prefer this one to her earlier, cd version.

I regret to inform you, doctor, that your sister is wrong.

Ummmm...Jeff Buckley's cover is the definitive version. For a quite thorough analysis of this song and its covers check out this paper,

Amen to that! Your sister's dead on. Damn that woman can sing!

But to complete the triumvirate, try out the Jeff Buckley version - it'll knock your socks off

Indeed she can sing. Watching the video made me recall the American Trilogy Elvis did.

The similarities in appearance between Elvis and K.D. is interesting.

Nope, I like Rufus the best!

This *IS* a good version, but points have to be deducted because I still have no idea if KD Lang is a dood or a chick. It's distracting; plus is she walking around barefoot?

I didn't know anyone else sang this besides Jeff Buckley.

Oh my God, that was so gut wrenching and beautiful my nervous system is still reververating from it.

Ohhhh, perfect timing SF. I read about this wonderful news yesterday, and now i hear "Hallelujah" from KD Lang. So beautifully appropriate! Hallelujah indeed!

KD is brilliant for sure, and I love her to pieces.

However, for me Jeff Buckley's version will always come out on top. Maybe it's because it's the version I first heard and loved, and have since listened to thousands of times. Maybe it's because he is gone and will never sing it again. Who knows.

I must ask - what's up with Ms. Lang's getup sans footwear? Did she get touched by some Eastern spiritualism or is she just mocking the 'barefoot and pregnant' look? :)
