I'm all a-quiver with anticipation for the big debate tomorrow. I actually think that Palin is not going to do that bad -- expectations are so very very low that if she doesn't emit a foot-long streamer of drool she'll win the "expectations game." She may even handle herself well, and for her sake, I hoe she does. But after the last couple of weeks, I am not sure that will be enough to salvage the ashes of her reputation.

Which Sarah Palin will show up tomorrow? She in fact has something of a record of success in past debates. But she's recently presented herself in interview settings, it cannot be disputed, as something more approximating a blithering idiot. Watch this exchange with Couric, where she can't even answer the simple question: what newspapers do you read?

"All of them"? "Any of them"? That's doesn't actually mean anything! I mean, come on! Just pick one, any one! The Times, the Post, even the bloody Anchorage Gazette for Jeebus' sake! This is painful to watch.

Whereas this bit is just funny.

You see, Biden's old. Really, really old. We wouldn't want an old president now, would we? They're all musty with the old-man stink! Someone young, with a new direction might be better, donchathink? Way to stick to the talking points.

This bit is just scary, though. I can't wait to see the video on it, which we don't have yet. It is, as reported, actually scary:

Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing. [...] It came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.

After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.

There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.
Wow. Come on. How 'bout, I dunno, Brown v Board of Education? That should be a gimme. Maybe since you're all abortion-crazy, Casey v Pennsylvania? Lawrence v Texas? Griswold? Plessy-Ferguson? Kelo? Dredd Scott? Beuller? Beuller? I'm just a doctor, not a politician, and I pulled all these out of my ass. Sure, I'm not on camera, but I'm not running to be Vice President either. For that matter, forget the name, just give me "that awful case about eminent domain," so I know you've been paying attention.

Except she hasn't, has she?

John McCain, putting Country First.

  1. She probably is stupid. Did you hear her refer to Obama as a "clean, articulate black"? Or how she said that "you can't gon into a 7-11 unless you have a Pakistani accent"?

No one like that should ever be the vice president!

Although Biden is old...I don't think he can use a computer.

  2. Ah, but can he use a Blackberry?

  3. Did you just call her a "hoe"?

  4. Actually BC, the 7-11 comment was made by Biden. He said:

"you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent."

  5. sort of like when Barack could not come up with an answer when a little girl asked him why he wanted to run for president.

  6. How fair of a debate do you think it will be with a moderator who has a financial stake in the outcome of the election? Gwen Iffel has a book to coming out on Inaugration Day titled: "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama." Certainly sales will be better if Obama wins the election. Her publisher (Random House) is filling you tube with clips of her praising Obama as promotion for the book.

  7. It's my understanding that the format of the debate was changed to suit Governor Palin's lack of experience. So much for partisan unfairness.

Sounds like you're lining up to be one of her apologists, in the event she doesn't perform as well as you'd like. Yep, let's start the finger-pointing now.

  8. It was Biden? That can't be! He's a Democrat, and therefore assumed to be brilliant, sensitive, tolerant, and deserving of high office!

Sp...does that mean those quotes don't prove stupid thinking? Or what? Is Palin really the dumb one in this debate?

  9. I love the right-spin. Ignore Palin's incoherent answers, and point at Biden.

BTW...did you hear Palin's endorsement of Obama? She said that the people are ready for someone new, not "experienced" like that old foggie McCain....

  10. dr. nic: try again....

"McCain himself downplayed the revelation, perhaps rightfully so. His campaign approved of her selection and ostensibly knew about the book before hand (it had been in the news weeks prior)."

"I think that Gwen Ifill is a professional and I think she will do a totally objective job," said McCain, "because she is a highly respected professional. Does this help that if she has written a book that's favorable to Sen. Obama? Probably not. But I have confidence that Gwen Ifill will do a professional job."

  11. Not right wing spin. I knew there was an idiot with a big mouth running for VP. I figured it was her, since you all say she's stupid. Really? Biden said all those things? But he's so...smart.......
