You Know

You know it's going to be an entertaining shift when you pass a multi-vehicle accident on the highway on your way into the ED.

I got there just before the first of many patients did...

That is one of the advantages of EMS. The people you are going to relieve are already out the door when you see something on the way to work.

If it is close to shift change, they may fly the patients to a trauma center rather than get tied up at the end of shift. I'm not encouraging this, but it does happen. And there are plenty of people in EMS who just abdicate their responsibility for care to the helicopter crews. :-)
