Got the bike a year or so ago, and never rode it much. Recently I picked up a few extra pounds, and the weather's been beautiful, so I've been trying to ride regularly.
Matlatzinca is right. Ride 4 times per week (for at least an hour) and keep your heart rate between 70% and 80% of maximum. Before long, you will crave the hills and your weight will not be an issue.
About me: I am an ER physician and administrator living in the Pacific Northwest. I live with my wife and four kids. My kids do their best to ensure that I have little time to pursue these hobbies.

How funny, that is exactly how I ride my bike. I think I may have more Motherfucka in it.

But this just isn't a flat state at all.
And I live at the top of a really steep hill.
